Caught by Branches presents a range of artistic approaches to exploring the relationship between humans and nature. The shared source of inspiration is the genius loci of the Baroque Veleslavín Château, which was converted into a sanatorium more than a century ago and, until recently, served healthcare purposes under state administration. Due to the rapid development of the surrounding neighborhoods, the château grounds now constitute the only built green area within the wider vicinity of the bustling city. This international collaboration of fourteen artists brings site specific installations, paintings, sculptures, and performances into the château building and its immediate surroundings. The artworks animate both the château’s interior—bearing traces of its original architecture as well as more recent layers of utilitarian use—and the adjacent park. In doing so, they offer a reflection on the interconnected relationship between humans and (urban) nature, while also focusing on the influence of nature on processes of regeneration and healing.
