Fabric of Interbeing

Mothers Artlovers

19.09. – 08.11.25

In 2025, the Entrance Gallery’s exhibition program focuses on cyclicality under the umbrella concept of the cycle of life. This applies to both individual lives and natural processes. Cyclical time offers a different perspective and values than the linear time we are accustomed to in our culture and era, which is strongly oriented towards constant progress.
In the project “Fabric of Interbeing” by the Mothers Artlovers art collective, this principle is manifested in reflections on mutual support, respect, and especially care. The artists, whose lives are connected not only with their creative work but also with caring for others, whether children or aging parents, will build a cozy environment in the gallery where everyone is warmly welcomed and invited to rest in a cozy dwelling playing with all the colors of the rainbow. The ceiling, walls, and floor of the gallery will be lost in the folds of a giant rainbow flag, which was created during the summer and fall of 2025 with the participation of about fifty people, including several children.
This is a reconstruction of the first rainbow flag created in 1978 by American artist Gilbert Baker in collaboration with artist Lynn Segerblom and photographer James McNamara, which was first flown on June 25, 1978, on the occasion of Gay Freedom Pride in San Francisco. Gilbert Baker and his team created the flag at the suggestion of activist and San Francisco politician Harvey Milk as a new symbol of LGBT pride. They were inspired by the Flag of Humanity from the 1930s, with five stripes (red, white, brown, yellow, and black) symbolizing the different human races. The original rainbow flag had eight stripes, each representing a specific principle: pink – eros, red – life, orange – healing, yellow – sunlight, green – nature, turquoise – art/magic, dark blue – inner peace, and purple – spirit. The flag was 15.24 meters long and 9.14 meters wide, and thirty volunteers worked together to create it. Thus, the most famous symbol of LGBT pride was born.
To commemorate the historic moment of LGBT+ pride and express solidarity with minorities, Mothers Artlovers decided to invite queer and feminist collectives and individuals to join in recreating the flag in its original dimensions using recycled clothing and fabrics. The resulting rainbow, measuring 15.24 meters long and 9.14 meters wide, will now become a catalyst for discussion and reflection on how to confront growing right-wing extremism, xenophobia, racism, and hatred towards minorities, queer people, and women. 🌈

Three collective events called Circles of Compassion will take place during the exhibition. The first Circle will focus on parents, especially mothers of young children, while the second will open up the topic of relationships between parents and their trans and queer children. The third Circle will concern caring for aging parents and accompanying them back to where they brought us from into the world.
Mothers Artlovers is a group of women who began meeting in December 2016 in Brno and Prague. It is a support group for mothers who are artists. It brings together mainly visual artists, theorists, curators, documentary filmmakers, activists—creative women for whom art is vital and whose interest in creation has not been diminished by motherhood. It does not exclude artist fathers, women or men who want to learn about the topic, or potential future parents. The form of support can vary and should be based on current needs and wishes: from meeting, sharing, and developing shared topics and ideas, to practical maternal support (such as babysitting, sharing things, etc.), institutional support, opportunities for joint creation, inspiration (exhibitions, projects, workshops), to the creation of an international functional platform that will allow us to share opportunities and support each other in their creative work.

Project has been realized with financial support of City of Prague. Entrance Gallery is supported by Ministry of Culture Czech Republic and State Fund of Culture of the Czech Republic.
